The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US against five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.
European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures that were central to efforts to introduce legislation governing American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined France in criticizing the decision.
The bans were imposed this week against an ex-European commissioner involved in crafting the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as four activists fighting false information, including Germany and the United Kingdom.
